Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site that hosts the half population of gorillas in the world. Nkuringo Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Nkuringo is suitably located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National park and it offers a remarkably wonderful gorilla trekking Experience. This sector has only one group family called Nkuringo group and only 8 visitors are allowed to see the gorillas. This gorilla group wad the first one to be habituated in the entire southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Trekking gorillas in Nkuringo gives you a great sight of magnificent sceneries and panoramic views of southern part of Uganda including the Nyiragongo and Nyimuragira of Congo. Visitors can also enjoy the batwa cultural experiences, birding, canoeing at lake Mutanda with scenic view of Virunga volcanoes situated on Uganda-Rwanda boarder. This is one of the most challenging but awesome sectors that involve a lot of hiking, trekking and great photography.

Ruhija Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Ruhija sector is located at the extreme eastern side of Bwindi Impenetrable National park . This sector can be easily accessed from Kabale or Buhoma and it nothing short of spectacular. it offers the most amazing experience to visitors interested in great jungle views with forested ridges . it sits at the great altitude of 2340m above sea level and the terrain is not hilly making it more suitable for elderly persons unlike Nkuringo and Rushaga.
Ruhija has four Gorilla families that include Oruzogo, Bitukura, Mukiza and Kyaguririo. Besides Gorilla trekking experience in Ruhija , it is also a birding haven for birders and primate walk too. There are a lot black and white colobus monkeys ,olive baboons, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, L ‘Hoests monkeys etc. Batwa cultural experience is also done in this sector. This is the only sector which is near lake Bunyonyi at 59km and the lake offers good stunning views of the islands. Optional activities are community tour , ziplining at lake bunyonyi and boat cruise.
Ruhija sector can easily be accessed from Kigali Rwanda in a four hours drive and at a nine hours drive from Kampala. This means that to avoid a long drive it is better trek gorillas from Ruhija sector.

Buhoma Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Buhoma sector is famously known as the oldest trailhead for gorilla adventures in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It is located in the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park at an altitude of 1500 -2300m above sea level. It was the first sector to host gorilla trekkers in 1993 and they visited Mubare gorilla family. This is the most popular gorilla trekking location and the most booked gorilla safari destination in Uganda.
It is the easiest location to trek gorillas because it has the best terrain to hike compared to others . Buhoma Gorilla Sector is the most easily accessed location by Air transport since it is near Kihihi Airstrip and other Gorilla sectors can also be accessed from this Airstrip. For visitors who are afraid of long distance on the road either from Kigali or Kampala/ Entebbe, this is the best option for them to majorly from Entebbe airport or Kajjansi airfield to Kihihi Airstrip.
From kihihi airstrip , visitors can easily connect to other national parks like Kibale national park for chimpanzee tracking and wildlife game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It takes 8 hours by road from Kampala to Buhoma sector and 6 hours from Kigali by road . These domestic flights are operated by Aerolink Uganda and the flight takes one hour and a half.
